Annual Meetings and Shows Glock officially introduced the latest entry in its line of crossover pistols: the Glock G45 MOS semi-automatic pistol is an optics-ready version of the Glock 45, factory fitted for use with some of the popular micro Red Dot or currently on reflex sights available on the market.
The Glock G45 MOS retains the core features of the Baseline G45 and all Glock Generation 5 pistols in general: a G19-sized polymer frame with a G17-sized RTF pistol grip that offers no finger grooves and a flared magazine for quick reloading. , as well as a set of four interchangeable backstraps in two different sizes - with or without a beavertail extension - that increase the overall grip dimensions by 2mm/0.08" and 4mm/0.16" respectively.
The G45 MOS features a reversible magazine release, a factory ambidextrous bolt-stop release lever, and a matte black diamond-like nDLC carbon coating on the bolt and barrel, obtained by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) for added durability. Wear, scratches and aggressive chemicals or environmental influences.
The Glock G45 MOS slide also features front and rear slide chains to accommodate different handling techniques. Beveled front for easy holstering; And a new visible and tactile loading chamber indicator is integrated as part of the extractor to show if a round is in the chamber.

The G45 MOS is 189mm / 7.44" overall and features a 102mm / 4" Glock Marksman Barrel (GMB) with its signature redesigned polyline for increased accuracy.
Total weight ranges from 616 g (21.73 oz) empty to 860 g (30.34 oz) with the magazine loaded. There are no changes to the standard Glock Safe Action trigger with a 26N pull. If you want a quick review of the Glock 45, I can sum it up in one sentence; "She flies like a Glock."
Gun Review: Glock G19 Gen4 Mos & G17 Gen4 Mos
I've been wearing Glocks professionally for over fifteen years, both in uniform and off duty. I don't know how many laps that equates to. I filmed them in Instructor and Operator level classes. I photographed her in the competition. I've shot every flavor of .45 and 9mm and a handful of .40 S&W versions. When I say the Glock 45 shoots like a Glock, I mean it's extremely reliable and consistent.
The Glock 45 is essentially a slightly updated Glock 19x. I say "updated" because the G19x's feature set caused some issues that the 45 fixed. The first problem was that it was only available in "Coyote" color. While it's a pretty attractive finish, I prefer black handguns for LE uniform work and anything but crawling around in the dirt. A pistol should complement an officer's uniform, and most departments are not interested in tucking a tan pistol out of black uniform.
The second problem was a silly lip on the front of the newspaper chute. I understand that if you have really big hands, the lip protects you from getting pinched by the magazine. However, this is a fairly rare occurrence on the long-handled Glock 17. What Lip has achieved is to prevent the new generation 5 magazines from sitting in the pistol due to a redesigned base plate. The new magazines are backward compatible with previous generation pistols, but not with the G19x.
The Glock 45 inherited the G19 long slide and G17 long grip assembly from the G19x and doused it in a neat black finish. The Glock 45 placed the lip well above the magazine and carried the flared magwell of other Generation 5 pistols. Internal components are similar to those of the Glock 19x.
Review: Glock 40 Gen4 Mos
This list of changes piqued my interest but didn't really make me buy a Glock 45. What finally convinced me were the forward-facing clamping teeth. It's a very simple thing, but it's a very useful feature for me.
I do a fair amount of dry fire training. Forward cocking serrations make cocking a pistol a more efficient technique. Forward serrations make pressure checks easier and less prone to ejecting a cartridge. Regardless of where you fall on the spectrum of press scrutiny, it's a fact of life that you carry a gun for life. Finally, in the competitive arena, sometimes you need to pick up a pistol with an empty chamber and load it onto the watch. Cycling the chute at the front provides more efficient movement and can save time on a fire line. I'm happy to see that this feature has now been updated for the rest of the fifth generation Glocks.
My interest grew into an itch to get my hands on a Glock 45. When our local store called to say they had one in stock, I rushed to take a look. When I put my hand around it, it felt just like my Glock 17 Gen 5. That feeling was confirmed when I pulled the trigger. The front tension serrations felt perfect and performed as expected.
If I catch up with the Glock 45 instead of the Glock 19 I was wearing, the final check is if it fits perfectly. The G45 snapped right into my appendix holster and now gives me a full-size grip and 17-round magazines without compromise. The T.Rex Arms sidecar holster has a lot of pull on the handle. There was less risk of pressure and the seating comfort was about the same as my Glock 19. I was sold.

It is good practice to check live fire power on any handgun used for defensive purposes. However, checking reliability in a 9mm Glock is almost a waste of ammo. That said, when I bought the Glock 45 I threw in a 1000-round case Blazer 115gr FMJ 9mm.
I recruited two friends and a stack of different Gen 4 and Gen 5 factory mags and a selection of Magpul GL-9 mags. Together with the three of us, we did back-to-back drills with the G45 to a smoke point. It quickly became clear that gloves were necessary. Due to the polymer frame, we were still able to shoot the pistol with our bare hands, but the slide handling was far from comfortable.
Without a drop of lubrication, the Glock 45 ran like a champ. It continued through several "calculation exercises" and magazine changes. The only "inconvenience" we encountered was the failure to latch an empty magazine. This performed well on the test cycle and may have been caused by the shooter depressing the breech stop with his gloved hand.
At the end of the ammo case, I performed several "limp wrist" exercises. The G45 still only cycled the middle finger and thumb. Holding the frame close to the magazine well can cause it to malfunction, but this is not common in recoilless handguns.

I don't normally do accuracy testing on Glock pistols. Every Glock I've picked up is capable of punching at defensive ranges. If we stretch them out to 100 meters, hitting the upper body is not a problem. The Glock 45 features Glock's "Marksman" barrel. This new barrel uses a mix of Glock's polygonal rifling and standard rifling.
A thousand rounds isn't a difficult test of a suitable combat pistol, but it does give a quick indication that the Glock 45 will last most shooters for a lifetime.
